RustSeek

Gene Calculator - 3G3Y/4G2Y

Paste your plant genetics, simulate crossbreeding, and find a perfect clone (3G3Y) for hemp, berries, and more.

Your genetics0 genes

Paste several 6-letter codes at once, separated by line breaks, spaces, or commas.

Aim for 50–100 different genetics (more is better) — that usually finds a perfect clone. You have 0 so far.

Nothing here yet. Paste a batch above, type one and press Enter, or scan from the game.

Checks 3–5 plant crosses.

Best for everyday farming. Uses about 24 of your most useful clones and skips 5-plant crosses when the list is long. Usually finishes in seconds and covers common 3G3Y paths, but it can miss some crosses.

Gene calculator FAQ

What do G, Y, H, W, and X mean?

G is Growth, Y is Yield, H is Hardiness, W is Water (bad), and X is Empty. Order doesn't matter — GGGYYY and GYGYGY both count as 3G3Y.

How does crossbreeding work here?

Each planter slot votes with gene strength: G/Y/H = 0.6, W/X = 1.0. With 2–3 surrounding plants, the center plant keeps its gene unless the others strictly beat it. With 4+ plants there is no center — ties can give more than one outcome.

What should I paste in?

Every unique 6-letter genetics you already have — clones or seeds. You need at least three. Bad codes are ignored.

What's Target path vs Browse all?

Target path looks for a gen 1 (one cross) or gen 2 (first clone, then a second cross) way to hit a mix like 3G3Y. Browse all lists a lot of possible clones ranked by score.

What do Score, Chance, and Gen mean?

Score ranks clone quality (G/Y = 1.5, H = 0.75, W/X = −0.15). All G/Y is 9; 3G3Y and 4G2Y are 10 (perfect). Chance is how often that cross gives this genetics (multiplied across gens). Gen is how many crosses from the genes you pasted.

How do I use a result in-game?

Plant the center first (or any plant if it says Any). Wait about 10–15 minutes, then plant the surrounding clones. When the center enters Crossbreed, clone the result. For a 2-gen path, finish gen 1 first, then use that clone in gen 2.

In what order should I plant the center and surrounding plants?

Plant the center first. Wait about 10–15 minutes (until it is partway through the Sapling stage), then plant the surrounding clones. This head start helps the center reach Crossbreed before neighbors do. Prefer a center clone with many G genes so it grows faster — if the recipe says Any, genes in the middle do not matter.

How does scanning genetics from the game work?

Share the Rust game window (not the whole desktop). Each frame reads the Genetics line in inventory and on a planter you're looking at (G/Y/H/W/X), and shows which source it used. 16:9 from 720p up is supported; 16:10 and ultrawide are cropped to 16:9. Stable 6-letter codes are added automatically.

How do I get good genes fast?

Pick a bunch of different wild seeds (around 8 unique codes), calculate, and crossbreed the highest score first. The Next step panel shows which slots to hunt (e.g. ....YY means slots 5–6 should be Y). Find those in the wild, add them, and calculate again. W and X vote harder, so you usually need two plants with the good letter in that slot to overwrite them. Repeat until you hit 3G3Y (or your target), then clone it.

What's the difference between Fast and Full search?

Fast keeps about 24 high-coverage clones, skips 5-plant crosses on long lists, then does a finishing cross of the best mid-gen clones — good for everyday farming. Full search checks all of your genes at 3–5 plants, so it's less likely to miss a cross but much slower with a big stack. Both run at most 2 generations plus a finishing cross.
